Library is Located on the Ground Floor of the A.C. Joshi Library Building, Panjab University, Sector-14, Chandigarh. The library supports scholars and researchers in social sciences across India.
Timings:
- Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Library Sections
North Western Regional Centre Library is systematically organized into various sections to facilitate efficient research and study activities. Each section is tailored to serve specific academic needs.
Display-cum– Reading Hall
There is ample space and proper sitting arrangement with proper ambience and study environment in reading hall. The social science journals of repute are displayed all around the hall.
Books Section
Library has vast collection of books and publications in the field of social sciences and a segregated reading space for an tranquil study environment.
Seminar paper/ News Clipping Section
A dedicated room for Seminar sets which are sponsored by ICSSR and News clippings of academic value are kept for research scholars to access the curated information on current and past research topics.
Periodical stack Area
The back volumes of journals/ periodicals are arranged in a systematic library order, proper signage was provided to make them user-friendly. A separate space for the researcher is provided to devour the journals.

📘Library books & Publications collection
NWRC library maintains a vast collection of books in the field of social sciences. In addition ICSSR library serves as the major reference point for scholars and social science fraternity for social science research in the north western region of the country. 🔗
📰JOURNALS ( Online+Print & Print only) : 2025-26
The library is currently subscribing to social science (i.e. foreign and Indian publications ) journals. These includes print and print + online Journals, which can be accessed by the social scientists, research scholars and faculty members in the library. We also subscribe journals in regional language ( i.e. Punjabi language) to cater to the needs of researcher of the region. 🔗
💻SAGE RESEARCH METHODS [e-Resource database]
Sage Research Methods can be accessed in North Western Regional Centre Library, Chandigarh through NASSDOC, ICSSR, New Delhi to encourage Social Science Research activities in the North western Region. 🔗
🗃️Back Volumes of Journals
Since inception of library, a large collection of bound journals covering various fields of social science are kept in the Library. A separate stack area is allocated for back volumes of the journals which were arranged in proper Library arrangement.🔗
📝Seminars sponsored by ICSSR-NWRC
Over the years, library has accumulated a vast collection of the seminar titles on various topics and social problems, held at various places in North Western Region of India. These seminars were organized by different Colleges, Institutions, Departments of the various Universities of the region and are sponsored/ financed by ICSSR North Western Regional Centre, Chandigarh.🔗
👩🏫Directory of Social Scientist : North Western Region , India : 2025
It is a comprehensive Directory of eminent Social Scientists of the region covering Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Leh & Ladakh and Chandigarh. It is an in-house compilation of Region Centre, Chandigarh. This initiative is aimed to harness the vast human resource intellect of social science community.🔗

- Training programs: Intimation & organizing the training programs by Regional Centre and NASSDOC are circulated from time to time.
- Wi-Fi facilities and multiple electric extension boards were provided to the students so they can use their Laptops with free Internet accessibility for their academic activities.
- Internet Kiosk : Computer is provided to the researchers with online access
The ICSSR-NWRC Library supports scholars, researchers, and faculty across India with extensive resources in the social sciences. It provides access to books, journals, e-resources, and archival materials, and facilitates various user services including research assistance and inter-library collaboration.
